"Man destroys pair of eye glasses with garbage disposal!" Okay, so I'm exaggerating just a little to make a point. (I actually kept my old frames and turned them into sunglasses.) But there was certainly no love loss between me and my old prescription glasses. I had been prisoner to glasses like these for practically all my life. The day after my Lasik surgery the prison sentence finally ended. I wore glasses from 1987 to 1997, contacts (when I could get them to stay in my eyes) from 1997 to 1998, and glasses again from 1998 to 2001. No more. I am no longer handicapped. It's cliché but true; the day after the procedure was the best day of my life! I woke up and felt this amazing sense of freedom. If you have never been a convict in this vision prison you can't understand, but to my fellow inmates, Lasik is everything they say it is, and more. A world in which I can walk confidently down the halls without any visual crutches. The surgery itself was scary. No two ways about it. I found it nearly impossible to control my fight or flight instincts during the procedure and just relax. (If you are offered drugs, take them!) Dr. Caster and his staff (they deserve big raises) were fantastic. During the scariest part of the surgery was when I was most glad I selected Dr. Caster. If I was this nervous with the best laser eye surgeon in Los Angeles, how would I have felt under the laser at Joe's Discount Eye Surgery? It's worth the money. Go to the best. And as bad as it was, it really wasn't that bad. You feel mild discomfort when the flap in your eye is cut open. Then, the laser runs for a few minutes and you're done. The anxiety I felt was all mental, I couldn't tell my to stop shaking and allow someone to cut my eye. But after a few minutes it was all over and I was on my way home. If I had to I would do it again. And again and again and again. I love my new vision that mush! What's a few minutes of discomfort for a lifetime of crutch-free vision? You can't see much immediately after the surgery. You're eyes are dilated and everything is a little blurry. Protective goggles are worn that fog up and keep moisture inside. I would lift the goggle and wipe away fog periodically to test my new vision. I noticed improvement throughout the day but nothing compared to that next morning. Computer screens look different; it takes some adjusting but I was able to work the next day. Thank you Dr. Caster. I love my new eyes! If you've been a prisoner to glasses or contacts, break free! I need a rebate on my NBA career. Nine years of contacts, inconsistent vision, and frustration all gone in three hours of pre-op & 20 minutes of surgery. The hardest part was saying goodbye to the teddy bear. I have worn glasses since I was 2 years old. The first miracle was when I went from glasses to contacts at the age of 12. My prescription was extremely strong and getting rid of the glasses and the distortion that goes with them was incredible for the next 40 years. Contacts went in every morning and came out at night. I saw a clip on T.V. about the Lasik procedure at the "Caster Eye Center", and decided ti was about time to do something for myself. After 32 years of glasses and every new contact that hit the market I thought, stop spending the money on remedies and get the surgery.

I was amazed. True to what they said there was absolutely no pain. And I have to say that everyone at the center made me feel most comfortable and assured.

Less than a week has gone by since I had the Lasik procedure performed and I could not be more pleased. I'll admit to being a little nervous for a few minutes before and during the procedure - but for no reason. Everything has gone so smoothly - the procedure and the nonexistent recovery period. Except for the numbing eye drops, I experienced no pain at all before, during or after the procedure. Isn't it ironic that the only part of the whole process that causes any pain at all is the anesthesia, which holds they eyelid open during surgery, and from the pressure of the microkeratome on the eye during the flap-cutting part.

Honest Answers to Prospective Patients: 1.) Yes, you must have the procedure done. The results are astonishing. My eyes are 20/20 and 20/25 less than 24 hours later. 2.) No, there is no pain. Pulling the tape off your face, which holds your eyelashes out of the way, is the most painful part of the process. 3.) Yes, the process of creating the flap with the keratome is weird, but only takes 10-12 seconds. 4.) Yes, you should just take a nap after the procedure. The day of my surgery, I was anxiously apprehensive. I watched the surgery before mine. The patient was so calm and didn't move. I was worried I would move and they would have to keep me held down! One of the assistants just told me to keep relaxed and BREATHE! So I tried to have an out of body experience when I went to lie down and await my new vision. After surgery I could immediately see a difference. I went home and slept for six hours! I did wake up in intervals and put my natural tears in my eyes, as they did feel scratchy. My years as a teenager were haunted by the specter of wearing thick nerdy glasses. I wore my prescription aviation sunglasses so often (even at night) that people in my high school were sure I was drug dealer (and I was one of the few who had never even smoked pot!). I was just trying to look "cool".
Contacts were a godsend. They changed my life. But being lazy, I could never be bothered to take them out at night like I was supposed to. Once I had left my contacts in for a period of over 9 months (much to the horror of my optometrist). Ultimately, this led to an increasing amount of corneal abrasions in addition to blood vessel growth into my cornea, which, if unabated, could eventually endanger my vision.

Lasik is now the godsend. The staff was always professional, courteous and knowledgeable. Everything that would happen to me was clearly and patiently explained beforehand (even the risks of failure). In fact, they were so thorough and confidant in their approach that when the "miracle" occurred it seemed inevitable. I felt ungracious for being so complacent about the Caster Eye Center delivering this miracle to me. They have my profound thanks. Though words feel inadequate here they will have to do. My eyes were bad since I was 9 years old and one of my dreams was to be able to see clearly - when I wake up, when I look at trees. The advent of soft contact lenses seemed to bring this dream closer to reality and for 30 odd years, this is what I have been doing.

Then came the advent of Lasik but for several years, I was very reluctant to walk into a doctor's office to do this. But when my own doctor, Dr. Levin, got his eyes Lasik'ed and spoke so highly of Dr. Caster, I made up my mind to come in and get my eyes done. Here it is my 39th birthday, and I received the best gift - ever. The gift of perfect vision! I felt compelled to write this letter because of my experience… Okay, maybe I want this letter to be displayed on his office walls too! The staff really went out of their way to make me feel like family and not just another patient. My brother (who had a minor complication) was treated on a Sunday and he's healing perfectly. This kind of true commitment really impressed me.

The staff was very thorough and west over every step to assure me that the process was safe. Once on the table, I felt totally secure- knowing that Dr. Caster and his staff are the elite in this fairly new branch of medicine. I admit the concept of slicing my cornea wasn't pleasant. As with any invasive vision procedure, I was a bit apprehensive about having Lasik surgery. However, 2 days post-op, I'm extremely pleased with the results, with my apprehensions being alleviated. Statistically, Lasik has a very low rate of complications, but they cease to become low when they happen to you. After taking extensive measurements and thorough eye examinations, Dr. Caster was aware of my concerns. He reviewed my case, and assured me that he wouldn't even recommend my having the procedure if he didn't think I was an ideal candidate able to undergo the procedure free of complications. Dr. Caster, Dr. Hoff, and the rest of the staff have proven to be extremely competent. Having undergone the procedure themselves, they were all so understanding to the needs of their patients. The procedure itself was quick, recovery time minimal, and results exemplary. I feel as if I'm seeing with contacts, only they're not there. This was a procedure I had considered for five year. I finally decided to do it. My eyesight was off the charts and I was tired of glasses for distance and glasses over my contacts to read anything. I never knew if I should look over or under whatever pair I was wearing. I was moderately nervous the few days before the surgery. The actual surgery was much easier than I anticipated. The whole process was painless and took about 15-20 minutes. Dr. Caster and staff were extremely professional and understanding all the way through. I am writing this, 2 days post surgery. I have no pain. My left eye is a little irritated by not much. DI am driving without glasses and can see better than ever in my life. My vision is 20/25 in my right.

• Why Lasik? It became very difficult for me to wear glasses or contacts comfortably, so I began to research corrective surgery. I chose Lasik because ofit's relatively quick healing time and least painful procedure.
• As expected, I was very nervous on the day of surgery, though it was very helpful that I had done so much research and was very familiar with the procedure. Dr. Caster and his staff were very supportive and talked me through the entire procedure, so nothing was unexpected and I knew exactly what was going to happen and what it would feel like. There was no pain, though there was some discomfort during the forming of the flap. During the laser, you are never left in silence, which I found very comforting, Dr. Caster talked all the way through. 
• After surgery, I was already able to see better, On the same day I could watch TV with out corrective lenses. I could even see the clock on the VCR. Today, the day after, I am seeing great, 20/30 from 20/400. And I'm told it will still improve. 
• Dr. Caster and his staff are wonderful and really make the experience as worry-free as possible.

I underwent the Lasik procedure two weeks ago. My experience was zero pain. Approximately four hours after the procedure I felt a slight burning sensation, but nothing like the pain when a contact lens is dislodged or a piece of grit enters the eye. The sensation lasted approximately half an hour, but caused no tearing. I just relaxed and it went away.

Approximately five hours after the procedure there was no sensation at all except I do remember opening my eyes and being able to see across the room. It was amazing! The next morning I experienced the greatest joy by being able to see the clock, read the labels of containers on my bathroom counter, and make out faces across the room. I achieved 20/25 in one eye and 20/40 in the other. I highly recommend the procedure and there is no finer doctor than Dr. Caster, and that also includes his very professional staff.

The procedure was simple. I'm very pleased with how the procedure was explained so thoroughly by the nurses and the video, and even the doctor. All my questions were answered to my satisfaction. The actual procedure took a few minutes for each eye ( It may even be shorter because when you are having a surgery a minute seems a lot longer than it actually is). I think the only pain or discomfort I felt was the instrument that kept my eyes open so that I won't blink, and in the beginning I felt absolutely nothing. Lasik worked. It worked better than any other medical procedure has ever worked in my life. I can see perfectly. Every now and then, I remember that I had the procedure done, and I shake my head in wonder. Most of the time, though, it's forgotten. It's like I never needed glasses. And that's a great feeling. Now that I'm done complementing the true hero of this whole thing - the laser - let me say a few words about this alleged "Dr. Caster" and his office. This is the best medical office in America. No, I haven't been to them all, but I'm extrapolating. The place is run like a Swiss watch factory, everyone is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, the staff seems prepared at all times, there were no infuriating delays, mistakes, incompetence, etc.
The procedure is exactly as advertised. Painless. I'd prefer another Lasik by Dr. Caster to ripping a Band-Aid off. I'd prefer it to getting a throat culture. I'd prefer it to stubbing my toe, running out of Diet Coke or shaving. And I mean it. It's an A+. I have zero complaints. Nothing but praise. This may seem redundant in light of all the other testimonials you've received, but I assure you–I am one of the crankiest and hypercritical patients to ever walk through the door. Damn, Caster and co. You're great at what you do. I would thank you, but I've decided to pay you instead. You deserve it.

I was a young child when it was discovered that I had terrible vision - I was nearsighted and had astigmatism in both eyes.
